This Bespoke home challenges the norm of regular rental home. The Japanese tea place is an DYI project inside the living room of a rental apartment in Toronto. It is purposefully designed and built during Covid to give them to enjoy their calm and peaceful moments after a busy long day. Since it was built in the living room of a small apartment, it needs to serve multiple purposes to entertain guests, sometimes dinner with larger groups guests or even extra sleeping space for overnight guests. The built-in Japanese tea place also serves the purpose for storage since it’s an old apartment and there are limited storage space.
The tea place is surrounded by a bookshelf to seperate their office space where they can grab their favourite book and read while enjoying a fresh cup of tea. They added many other elements of decoration around her living room. It is an ever changing place to show off their collectable items from all around the world.
The dining area used old recycled cribs to create seperation from entrance to living space. It also created space to hand plants and handmade lanterns for additional lighting. We built a Murphy’s table to use as a dining table. When in use it can be folded up to make a dining table and when not in use it can be used to fold down for additional space.
